All the answers to frequently asked questions about registration, the tests, the fees and the results of the DELF-DALF.

How do I register for the DELF or DALF?

From the GoDELF home page, choose a session directly (level + date), enter your personal details, upload a valid ID document and pay online by bank card. Your candidate account is created automatically along the way. Registration is confirmed immediately and you receive your exam summons by e-mail a few weeks before the exam.

How much does the DELF or DALF cost?

The fees are 93 € (DELF A1), 115 € (A2), 130 € (B1), 150 € (B2) and 200 € (DALF C1 and C2). Payment is made online by bank card. This fee is the same for everyone: partner schools and associations pay the same price and benefit from a group management area (group quote at the standard rate on request).

What is the difference between the DELF and the DALF?

The DELF covers levels A1, A2, B1, B2 (basic and independent users of the CEFR). The DALF covers levels C1 and C2 (proficient users). Both are official diplomas valid for life, issued by the French Ministry of Education through France Éducation International.

Which DELF or DALF level is needed for French naturalisation?

Since the immigration law of 26 January 2024, the minimum level required for French nationality by decree is the DELF B2 (previously B1). For the 10-year long-term resident card, the minimum level is the DELF B1.

Which level is needed to enter a French university?

Most French universities require the DELF B2 for admission to a bachelor's or master's degree. Some selective courses (master's degrees, business schools, engineering schools) may require the DALF C1. The DALF grants a permanent exemption from any subsequent French test.

Is the DELF or DALF valid for life?

Yes. Unlike the TCF or TEF, which are tests with a 2-year validity, the DELF and DALF are official diplomas valid for life once obtained.

How long does it take to receive the results?

Results are published within 4 to 6 weeks after the collective session. The official diploma is then issued by France Éducation International and delivered to the candidate several weeks to a few months later.

Can I take the DELF online?

No. The DELF-DALF must be taken in person at an accredited centre. Only registration is online via GoDELF. The collective exam (written + audio) and the oral exam take place at the exam centre.

How long does it take to prepare for the DELF B2?

A solid B1 candidate aims for B2 after an extra 200 to 300 hours of French, i.e. 6 to 12 months of regular preparation. Allow more if your B1 is shaky.

What happens if I am absent on the day of the exam?

No refund is issued in the event of an unjustified absence. Postponement to a later session may be accepted on production of a medical certificate or in the event of force majeure, subject to availability.

Which ID document must I provide?

A valid photo ID document: national identity card, passport, residence permit or driving licence. The name and date of birth on the document must exactly match those of your registration.

Can I cancel my registration and get a refund?

Yes, if you request it more than 48 hours before the collective exam: write to us at examen@godelf.com stating the last 4 digits of your bank card (so that we can find your payment) and we will proceed with the refund. However, no refund is possible for a cancellation less than 48 hours before the exam; a postponement to a later session then remains possible subject to availability.

What happens if I fail the exam?

You can re-register for a later session as many times as you wish. Each new registration is a separate payment. The minimum pass mark is 50/100 with a minimum of 5/25 per test — scoring 4/25 on one test results in a fail even with 80/100 overall.

Where is your exam centre located?

Our centre is located at 50 rue de Pontoise, 95870 Bezons (Val-d'Oise), 15 minutes from Paris La Défense by the T2 tram (Pont de Bezons stop, then a 3-minute walk). From the RER A, get off at Houilles Carrières-sur-Seine and take bus 6 or 37 to Pont de Bezons.

Can I register a group of candidates as a school or association?

Yes. Our dedicated school area lets language schools, FLE / literacy associations, apprentice training centres (CFA), local employment missions and community centres register their learners as a group, track payments by quote and retrieve invoices and certificates.
